Taiwan wins best pavilion award at Long Beach travel fair
Long Beach, California, Jan. 15 (CNA) The Taiwan pavilion won the best display award at the 2012 Los Angeles Travel and Adventure Show in Long Beach on the weekend, a Taiwanese tourism official said Sunday.
Lin Hsin-jen, director of the Tourism Bureau’s Los Angeles office, said the display of Taiwan’s scenery, culinary diversity and wealth of culture at the travel fair not only put Taiwan in the spotlight but also helped made the whole event more attractive.
“At the award presentation ceremony, the travel fair’s organizing committee lauded us for our exhibition content planning and active participation in every category of activity,” Lin said.
In the culinary show, for instance, the Taiwan pavilion presented the country’s signature “salt and pepper” fried chicken, with Frances Lee, a famous street food operator in the Los Angeles area, demonstrating how to make the dish.
“All the visitors who tasted Lee’s Taiwanese-style ‘salt and pepper’ fried chicken gave it a thumbs-up,” Lin said.
Many other countries, including China, Japan, Thailand, Costa Rica, Indonesia and Germany, and some U.S. states such as Nevada and Utah also took part in this year’s travel show.
They presented colorful displays and interesting events but the Taiwan pavilion was the most popular, Lin said.
The travel show was held at the Long Beach Convention Center on Jan. 14
